Solved by AgentixSEO

Run alt text with AgentixSEO, without the manual work.

Alt text work gets slow when the same client image appears in several contexts and the CMS reuses one description everywhere. The real job is deciding what each image contributes, then making sure the right text reaches the rendered page.

How agencies do this today

The manual workflow, step by step.

For a routine batch of about 20 image instances across five client pages, allow roughly 90 minutes for inventory, context checks, writing, implementation and QA. Complex charts and template defects need a separate work batch.

  1. Step 1Time sink

Find images that need a decision

Export image references and their source pages. Separate missing alt attributes from empty ones: an empty attribute can be correct for decoration. Record the page URL, image URL and current alt value.

  2. Step 2Time sink

Inspect each image in its page context

Check the image beside its heading, caption and surrounding copy. Identify whether it informs, decorates, labels a link or communicates data. Check the rendered element rather than relying only on a media-library record.

  3. Step 3Time sink

    Draft and resolve client questions

Write proposed alt text against each page instance. Ask the client to confirm product variants, locations or technical details that are not evident. Track decorative images explicitly so blank cells are not mistaken for unfinished work.

Google SheetsContent editor and client contact
  4. Step 4Time sink

    Update the correct field

Edit the image block, component or media field that actually controls the output. Check whether the change affects existing placements or only future insertions. Avoid overwriting useful descriptions on other pages using the same asset.

  5. Step 5

    Test the published result

Inspect the live alt attribute, then test reading order and linked-image names with a screen reader. Record the verified page and final value so the next audit does not repeat the investigation.

Repeated context checks

A typical batch involves opening the same pages during discovery, editing and QA. An inventory without page-level decisions makes each reviewer repeat that work.

Shared-asset mistakes

A media-library update can leave existing blocks unchanged or replace descriptions in several unrelated contexts. The agency then spends another review cycle finding and correcting the affected placements.

Implementation eats specialist time

Routine field edits and publishing handoffs can consume time that an SEO specialist should spend on content and technical priorities. Client approval delays stretch a small task across several working days.

The better way

The same job in AgentixSEO.

Use AgentixSEO for the implementation path and Scout to draft work from the image context your team supplies. For the same 20-instance batch, allow roughly 55 minutes, including context checks, agency approval and live QA. Keep judgment about image meaning with the reviewer.

  1. 1

    Establish the site-fix path

    One-line install

Set up AgentixSEO's one-line install so approved fixes can go live without editing the client's code for each change. Prepare a page-level inventory and ask Scout to organize the proposed work by informative, decorative and functional image use.

You approve: The client site, installation and exact page instances in scope. Confirm that intentionally empty alt attributes are not treated as automatic errors.

  2. 2

    Release the reviewed correction batch

    One-line install

Have Scout draft the work from your supplied image descriptions and page context. Review the final values, then use AgentixSEO's installation to put approved fixes live without a separate code-editing handoff.

You approve: Every final description or empty alt value, the affected placement and any facts that require client confirmation.

  3. 3

Verify the fixes on live pages

    One-line install

Check the rendered output after the approved fixes go live. Inspect every changed instance in this small batch and test functional images with a screen reader. Return any incorrect output as a correction for review before another change is released.

You approve: Closure of the batch only after the live values, link names and decorative-image behavior match the approved decisions.

The playbook

Alt Text: Practical Guide

  1. 01

Make the page instance your unit of work

Track page URL, image source, element or component, purpose, current value, proposed value and verification status. One image file can need different treatment when used as a product detail, a linked thumbnail or a decorative banner.

Operator tip: Add a component identifier or nearby heading. An image URL alone cannot reliably distinguish two placements of the same asset on one page.

  2. 02

    Classify purpose before writing

Use meaningful descriptions for informative images, destination or action wording for functional images, and alt="" for genuinely decorative images. For charts and diagrams, provide a short identification plus a nearby accessible explanation of the important information.

Operator tip: An empty alt attribute and an absent attribute are not equivalent. Missing alt can cause assistive technology to announce a filename or URL.

  3. 03

Describe the information the reader needs

Write the shortest description that preserves the relevant meaning. Include visible differentiators such as product color, configuration or the result demonstrated in a screenshot. Do not infer materials, identities, locations or performance claims from appearance alone.

Operator tip: Use the adjacent copy as a subtraction test: remove details already communicated there unless they are necessary to understand the image's role.

  4. 04

    Treat image links as controls

When an image is the only content of a link, its alternative should communicate the destination or action. When an image and descriptive text share the same link, the image can often use empty alt to avoid repeating the link label.

Operator tip: Inspect the accessible name of the whole link. An aria-label or other naming source can change what a screen reader announces, even when the image alt looks correct.

  5. 05

Fix the authoring source and check the output

Determine whether the CMS stores alt text on the asset, the page block or the template. Update the controlling source and verify the rendered image after publishing. Include this check in the agency's content release process.

Operator tip: For responsive images, inspect the img element inside picture. CSS background images have no alt attribute; meaningful background content needs an accessible equivalent in the page.

Quick reference

Run an alt text correction batch

  • Build a bounded inventory

Select a small set of priority pages. Record each image instance and distinguish missing attributes, empty values and existing descriptions. Include linked images, not just large content images.

  • Assign an image purpose

Mark each instance as informative, decorative, functional or complex. Open the actual page before deciding. Do not classify every stock photo as decorative or every product image as informative by default.

  • Write the proposed alternative

For an informative image, describe the relevant visible content. For an image-only link, describe its destination or action. For decoration, specify alt="" explicitly. For a complex visual, identify where its fuller text explanation belongs.

  • Resolve uncertainty before approval

Flag unverified model names, locations, people and technical claims. Get confirmation or remove the uncertain detail. Review keyword use for accuracy rather than trying to place the page's target phrase in every image.

  • Publish to the correct placement

Apply the approved value to the field or component that controls the rendered image. Check shared assets and template reuse before allowing a change to affect other pages.

  • Verify and record the live result

Inspect the rendered alt attribute and test image-only links with a screen reader. Confirm decorative images are skipped and complex visuals have an accessible explanation. Record the verified value and page URL.
